The 2017 offshore fishing season is in full swing. Fishing from inside the fingers to the lanes has been producing Yellowfin, Bluefin, White Marlin and Mahi. Wahoo are starting to show up in numbers in the lanes as well. Canyon fishing is also heating up. The yellowfin bite has been spectacular with fish ranging from 80-90 pounds. We have also seen a influx of big-eye tuna to the Canyons. Out last trip aboard the Jakamo2 with the Jakamo Sportfishing team caught 7 big-eye weighing 70-90 pounds and 4 yellowfin up to 75 pounds. While the winter is winding down, fishing is on the minds of everyone in the Northeast. Here at JC's Offshore Tackle, we have been preparing for the oncoming migration of pelagic species into our waters. We expect 50-150lb class Bluefin to be rolling through the Canyons and dump area in mid to early June. In this fishery we tend to run a combination of spreader bars and daisy chains complemented by ballyhoo rigged on Joe Shutes on our long riggers. Stellwagen continues to produce decent Bluefin on most days in recent weeks. The catches have ranged anywhere from 80-800 pounds with some monster bites. Jigging and popping guys seem to be doing great casting and jigging to busting fish. The fish are really honed in on halfbeaks so they can be finicky at times. Smaller baits and lighter leaders seem to be the trick. Also, if you want to try trolling for them, use naked ballyhoo and JC's Green Machine Bars which have produced very well. Keep on fishing!
